Speaking of activities that can be enjoyed in winter in Iwate, skiing and snowboarding come to mind. It seems that Ritt, a Thai student, also enjoyed winter sports at the Hachimantai ski resort. Please take a look at Ritt's report!

Winter sport with friends (スノーボード体験)

Winter is slowly coming to an end, but there is still a wonderful opportunity to enjoy winter sports like skiing and snowboarding before the season wraps up. In Iwate, there are two popular ski resorts that are perfect for those looking to enjoy these activities: APPI Ski Resort and Hachimantai Ski Resort. These resorts are well-known for their great facilities and beautiful snowy landscapes, making them ideal destinations for both beginners and experienced winter sport enthusiasts. If you've already had the chance to enjoy these sports during the Iwate University International Office Trip and are eager to go again, both APPI and Hachimantai are perfect places to continue your winter adventure.

To get to these ski resorts from Morioka Station, you have the option to either drive or take a bus. On this particular trip, I chose to go by car with my friends, and we spent two exciting days at Hachimantai Ski Resort. It was a fantastic experience, filled with fun, adventure, and plenty of laughs.

When we arrived at the resort, our first task was to rent the necessary snowboarding equipment. The rental process is quite straightforward, and there are various rental options depending on how long you plan to stay. You can choose from a 5-hour rental, a 1-day rental, or a 2-day rental. The equipment choices include ski sets, which come with skis, boots, and poles, or snowboard sets, which include a snowboard and boots. For those who want a complete winter sports experience, full sets are also available, which include additional items like a jacket and pants. If you plan to visit the ski resort frequently or if you're planning to stay in Morioka for a longer period, purchasing your own equipment could be a worthwhile investment. Once we had all of our equipment sorted out, we were ready to hit the slopes.

Another essential purchase to enhance your ski or snowboard experience is the lift ticket. The lift ticket allows you to access the higher slopes of the resort and is necessary for getting to the top of the mountain to enjoy the downhill runs. These tickets are a must-have for anyone wanting to make the most of their time on the slopes. Without the lift ticket, it would be difficult to reach the more exciting areas of the resort, so make sure to buy one before heading up!

On our first day at Hachimantai Ski Resort, we spent the entire afternoon enjoying the snow, carving down the slopes, and experiencing the thrill of winter sports. We played until around 5 p.m., at which point we decided to head back to our accommodation to relax. After an active day in the cold, there's nothing better than a warm, comforting meal. That evening, we enjoyed a delicious hot pot dinner, a perfect meal for the winter season. The warmth of the hot pot was a wonderful way to end the day and to relax with friends after all the fun on the slopes.

On day two, I decided to try something new: I switched from snowboarding to skiing. It was an interesting change, and I found that both activities were equally enjoyable. While snowboarding was a fun challenge, skiing provided a different type of excitement and a chance to experience the slopes in a new way. I spent the day alternating between both sports, which made for a well-rounded winter experience.

Studying at Iwate University offers a unique opportunity to experience the changing seasons in Japan, and the winter season adds a special charm to life here. The chance to enjoy winter sports in such a beautiful setting makes the experience even more memorable. Whether you're a seasoned skier or snowboarder or a complete beginner, I highly recommend everyone to try out these activities at one of Morioka's ski resorts. It's an adventure that's both fun and unforgettable, and it's a great way to make lasting memories during your time in Japan.
