Nanbu Magariya Presentation Recap

This week's Global Village event featured Iwate's unique architectural gem--the Nanbu Magariya, whose distinctive L-shaped design housed residents and their horses under the same roof. A curated picture tour showcased a local example of the Nanbu Magariya, highlighting aspects of its architecture, history, and usage. The event, conducted mostly in English, ended with an audience-led discussion about traditional dwellings around the world.

今週のグローバルビレッジは岩手県のユニークな伝統農村家屋である南部曲がり屋を取り上げました。独特なL字型の家屋で、人と馬が〝うまく″同居していた様子が歴史、建築様式、当時の生活の知恵とともにウィリアム先生により英語で紹介され、様々な国からの学生が自国の伝統家屋について意見を交わす、大変興味深いセッションとなりました。
